What is the Inter-library Loan Service and what does it provide?

The Inter-library Loan Service locates and provides for you, material from other libraries. It is important that this material must not be included in the Library’s collection.

Who may use the Inter-library Loan service?

The use of the Inter-library Loan service is granted to all the NTUA community (faculty, technical staff, scientific assistants, administrative staff, undergraduate, postgraduate students and PhD candidates), provided they possess a library card. Those who do not belong to the NTUA community, do not have access to the Inter-library Loan service.

What type of materials are available?

You can request monographs, journal articles, and conference proceedings, excerpts from books, standards, theses and dissertations.

To use the Inter-library Loan service, what should I do?

IMPORTANT NOTE: Before you request any type of material you should be certain that this material is not included in the Central Library’s collection or in any other NTUA departments, in either printed or electronic form. If you cannot locate the material, you should look through the Hellenic Academic Libraries Union Catalog (HALUC), to possible locate any of the libraries that are likely to have the material you are requesting. Then, you submit an online request to the Inter-library Loan service.

The steps you need to follow to connect to the Inter-library Loan service are the following:

  • To have access to your account and to the Inter-library loan Service, you must enter the barcode of your library card or your academic identity and your personal password (pin).

Is there any charge for using the service?

The Inter-library Loan service is provided to the NTUA users free of charge. However, there is a limit in orders. A user can request up to ten (10) orders per academic year. For further information, visit the Inter-library Loan Rules & Regulations.

What is the loan period for Inter-library Loan materials?

The loan period is determined by each library from which the materials are being borrowed. Most of the libraries have a loan period of two (2) weeks. Renewals cannot be made. The date that the material should be returned to the library is usually noted in the back cover of the book. Also the user will be informed by the inter-library loan librarian regarding the return date.

Where do I check in the Inter-library loan material?

If you have received the inter-library loan materials from the NTUA Central library, you should return it to the Inter-library loan Office or to the Information Desk, at the NTUA Central Library at Polytechnioupoli Zografou. In case you have personally received the material from another library, you should return it to the same library.
